of “End Teen Cruelty”

END TEEN CRUELTY

etc – (End Teen Cruelty) was a non-profit organization committed to teach kids how to combat everyday cruelties, so that it would be easier to be “different”, cool to be kind, and “uncool” to be cruel.

etc – recognized that adults cannot reverse the negative trends in our teen culture.  Only teens can do that.  Therefore, at the core of our program were committed, bright, and socially adept 10th and 11th graders. They worked with students at the middle school level (where peer viciousness peaks).  They taught  them anti-cruelty strategies to combat teasing, put-downs, exclusion, clique behaviors, and  trained them in highly specific steps to build self-confidence.

The training program began in the Northeast, and expanded to other parts of the country, as we sent teams of students from our Council to train new leaders.

Our goals were to transform the teen culture into one that promotes tolerance for differences, and to make school a place where students not only feel safe, but also respected.
